After successfully deploying SMART to maintain its 21 substations, PEC (an Oklahoma-based coop) is now using SMART to inspect and maintain its more than 440 transmission poles using its GIS coordinates and displaying them on Google Maps. Using their GIS coordinates, not only can inspectors locate the poles on the map, they can also see the vegetation around the structures by displaying them in the Google satellite view. This allows them to take cognizance of any tree trimming requirements without making any physical trips.
